Professional Development

Professional development will be focused on an integrated curriculum approach with all subject matters.

 

 

 

 

 

• Establish three external workshops one of which will be school wide.

On October 11, 2012, teachers will be given a survey online to gain a baseline of their understanding of STEM as well as their current levels of collaboration by department and/or interdisciplinary team. They have a deadline of October 19, 2012, to complete the online survey.

On October 25, 2012, we will conduct the first professional development focusing on The Common Understanding of STEM and Instructional Strategies for all subject areas. This will be conducted by Leanne Wells the Mathematics & Science Education Initiative Planning Coordinator at FIU.

On October 26, 2012, we will host our Kickoff event. We have invited the following groups/individuals; faculty & staff, District & Regional personnel, Student Council representatives, PTSA representatives, business partners and guests, CEC & CED representatives, City of Hialeah Mayor and representatives, Miami-Dade School Board Member(s), and local media. See appendix for the draft of the agenda.

On February 1, 2013, we will have a professional development at Miami Dade College North Campus that will allow teachers to work in interdisciplinary groups to complete a hands-on experiment or project. Details of this professional development are being planned and further details will be provided.

On May 16, we will culminate this project with a B-PASS Symposium. Students, teachers and partners will come together to share their products, projects and experiences in an open forum.
